At Rose Hill General & Cosmetic Dentistry we are passionate about educating our patients on proper oral hygiene. To make sure your smile remains healthy it’s essential to get in the habit of brushing every day, twice a day. This is crucial to implement in your daily routine because the average person’s diet consists of a lot of high sugar and high carbohydrates.
Brushing and flossing regularly can also help prevent cavities and gum disease by removing food debris that natural oral bacteria feed upon. The bacteria that live in your mouth (yes, this is normal and healthy) adhere to your teeth and feed on the sugars that remain in the mouth after eating. The by-products formed by the bacteria (think bacteria poop! YUCK!!!) must be removed routinely to prevent decay and gum disease. We must have good hygiene habits in order to break down this process and keep the teeth clean and happy. We recommend brushing and flossing in the morning and before bed. No snacking after teeth are brushed! Plus, nobody wants crumbs in their bed sheets!
